Anthony Fauci Under Fire From Republicans, Elon Musk

Multiple Republicans, including Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) and Representative Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), pressed Fauci about whether the NIH had ever funded a gain-of-function study at Wuhan Virology Research Institute, an assertion that Fauci said was completely and totally wrong.

Certain groups, including a broad base of Republicans, believe that COVID-19 viruses had been running loose from a laboratory in Wuhan, China.

The disputed experiments have also raised questions about statements by Anthony Fauci and Francis Collins, director of the National Institute of Health, that the NIH-funded projects at the Wuhan virology institute did not include gain-of-function studies.

Grant funding for the controversial experiment came from the National Institute of Health’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, headed by Fauci. What seems clear is that Fauci was indeed aware of the work. As part of their inquiries into where the pandemic came from, Republican members of Congress questioned Fauci one two separate occasions about his role as the head of the Wuhan virology institute.

Fauci has also said in the summer he will be leaving the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, where he has been the director since 1984.

Billionaire Elon Musk called for top-level public epidemiologist, Fauci, to be prosecuted. Musk has also said that he will publish a version of The Twitter Files, which covers Twitter’s handling of misinformation about COVID-19. Musk further detailed this tweet by saying that Fauci, an NIH employee, should be held accountable for his role in COVID-19-related studies.

Fauci, the federal government’s top infectious disease expert and the top advocate for the federal government’s Covid vaccine, has strongly criticized certain ideologies, which, according to Fauci, has led to a disproportionate number of coronavirus deaths among Republicans relative to Democrats.

In an interview with Lester Holt on NBC News, which aired on Wednesday evening, Fauci said that he believes that political views have had a quantifiable impact on the number of people who might be saved from the Covid vaccines.

Fauci still has fans. For instance, a German official who won his libel suit against Twitter this week has dedicated his legal win to Fauci.

But for others, Fauci has lied to Congress and funded research which has killed millions.
